Recruited by William Hamer, current Executive Director, to join the board of HAS, Darryl T. Downing is a life-long community activist.
Background:
Darryl T. Downing is a Founding Member of the 1-4-5 Block Association, and the Creator and Director of the Educational Enhancement Afterschool Program at Grant Houses, where 40 youngsters matriculated and graduated college; 25 of whom pursued and attained graduate degrees, including a Doctor of Medical Research.
Mr. Downing is Chairman and Founder of I-AM-HARLEM, a Marketing/Production Consultancy; which is the nexuses of Mr. Downing’s Professional Associations. As such he organizes outreach and marketing for the Harlem Business Alliance. Other affiliations include Mindbuilders Creative Arts Center, Harlem School of The Arts and Board Member Of The Bradhurst Merchants Association. Lastly, Darryl has long been associated with the New Heritage Theatre Group (New York’s oldest “Black” Not-for-Profit Theatre- Celebrating 57 Years) as a Producer/ Audience Development Manager and, most recently, In-House Photographer.
He is the Special Events Manager for Harlem Week, Inc., The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce and The Harlem Arts Alliance.
